History

Alpha Pi Mu was started by James T. French in 1949 while he was an Industrial Engineering student at Georgia Tech.  The first of group Alpha Pi Mu initiates wanted to expand their organization and spread knowledge and experiences to other IE students.  1959 marked the first year in which Alpha Pi Mu gained membership in the Association of College Honor Societies (ACHS).  Alpha Pi Mu remains the only Industrial Engineering honor society in the nation.

Alpha Pi Mu currently has active chapters in 60 collegiate institutions with over 15,000 members.  Each year, Alpha Pi Mu initiates over 600 new members into the organization.  Alpha Pi Mu continues French’s dream of Industrial Engineers sharing ideas and experiences to further the educational experience.
